A Trip To Steamtown/Status of K4s 1361
By Randy Reist

In a bit over two hours I found myself in Scranton. Once exiting Interstate 81 onto the Cross-Scranton expressway (hardly an expressway in my opinion), I followed the signage for Steamtown into greater downtown Scranton where I found myself in a lurch. The signs to Steamtown suddenly disappeared. Had I missed one? With no fireman or navigator onboard, it was a challenge to drive and read the PennDot map at the same time. It was time to pull over to get my bearings and to read the map (we all know that real men don’t ask for directions). Once situated, I regained my bearings and began following the signs for the Steamtown Mall, it seemed like a good association to me- one would expect that the Steamtown Mall must be ‘near’ the Steamtown Rail Museum. After a walk through the mall it became apparent that I wasn’t as close to the museum as I had hoped. I had reached that point where circumstances had forced me to break down and ask for directions- how painful. Rearmed with fresh navigational data, I was back in my vehicle traveling the last few blocks. Filled with a sense of accomplishment, I pulled into the Steamtown parking lot, ready to begin my two day visit!
