On July 27, 2000, I had the pleasure of accompanying NS 1000 from Pavonia Diesel Terminal to its' new home the Juniata Terminal Company, Philadelphia, Pa.

This is one of the last photos of this engine in Conrail green with the NS 1000 number scheme.

Together with PRR 120; both car and locomotive compliment each other.

Juniata Terminal Company Machinist A.G. Hillman poses with the future 5809A.

Al and his son, Painter J.A. Hillman are responsible for the outstanding color finishes applied to all Juniata Terminal Company equipment.

Other craft people assigned to this project are Philadelphia Chapter members:

G.S. Kusner - Machinist, D.A. Levin - Machinist Helper, E.B. Levin Machinist Welder and N.A. Seman - Mechanical Engineer

The restoration work began almost immediately, and on Saturday July 29, the removal of the exterior paint began.

This is the present condition as of August 10, 2000.

A high pressure water system was used to cut through and remove the many layers of paint and undercoat.
The exterior of PRR 5809A is now ready for sheet metal fabrication. To the keen eye, some will notice the modifications made by Conrail from the original EMD design.
