On July 27, 2000, I had the pleasure of accompanying NS 1000 from
Pavonia Diesel Terminal to its' new home the Juniata Terminal Company, Philadelphia, Pa.
This is one of the last photos of this engine in Conrail green with the NS 1000 number scheme. |

The restoration work began almost immediately, and on Saturday
July 29, the removal of the exterior paint began.
This is the present condition as of August 10, 2000. |

A high pressure water system was used to cut through and remove the many layers of paint and undercoat. |

The exterior of PRR 5809A is now ready for sheet metal fabrication. To the keen eye, some will notice the modifications made by Conrail from the original EMD design. |
