The 5711 restored.... | |
|
On Saturday July 21, 2001,
the 5711 rolled out of our shops under its own power to join the 5809
basking in the bright sunlight of a pleasant July afternoon.
My thanks to my son Eric, who single handedly managed the project and brought the locomotive back to life. My thanks also go to Steve Agostini who documented the day by day progress and posted the images on the PRRTHS site. Al Hillman and his crew have to be the premier "appearance" gang when it comes to this kind of restoration. It is actually one week short of one year that we started the work on the 5809 and now we have two actual PRR locomotives restored as close as possible to their 1950's appearance. I would also like to thank the preservation community for their encouragement and support of what to some was not universally viewed very favorably. I also want to thank those who had the common sense and common courtesy not to visit our shops for a "sneak preview" I would encourage those of you who can possibly attend Altoona's Railfest to see the 5711 and the 5809 in early October and buy a ticket to ride behind them up and over the 'curve to raise money to support the restoration of the 1361, Once again, thanks and we hope you enjoy the effort and the final product. Although I missed the out shopping, Eric Levin captured these images at a private showing on Saturday July 21, 2001. |

| Look for this pair at the upcoming October Railfest in Altoona, PA | |
| This concludes the Juniata Terminal Company restoration of PRR 5711. | |
